We are a team of Business Development professionals based in the South of England.  We share a common belief that many aspects of sales and marketing can be delivered better on an outsourced basis.  We try to be straight-talking and candid in our communication with clients and like to augment our professionalism with a bit of personality and even the odd dollop of humour.

Peter Kane - founded The BD Consultancy.  He has 13 years of Business Development experience at Senior Manager and Director level.  He is a law graduate and a Chartered Marketer - but his real strength is getting things done. His most recent role was as Head of Business Development for Deloitte in South West England.  Peter helped Deloitte achieve record market-share and to grow fee income from Key Accounts by 320%.

Neil Dymond is Head of Marketing Services and has worked in various Marketing and Business Development roles for over 20 years in graphic design, financial services, utilities, charities and professional services. Over the last 10 years he has worked for four of the top 100 UK law firms, advising fee earners on marketing and business development strategy, planning and tactics. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and has joined The BD Consultancy to support business development and account management.

Rachel Horrocks  has hands-on experience of running her own Creative Design business and has joined The BD Consultancy as Marketing Executive. She is an arts graduate with a passion for applying her creativity to business development. An organiser with a penchant for social media, she has assisted a number of companies to launch their own social media presence. Her understanding of business from the inside is a valuable asset to our clients.Rachel’s role is to make sure that clients’ business development campaigns work well across all media – delivering the right results on time and on budget.

Dr Clifford J Ferguson – Course Director

Cliff has provided training and consultancy to professional firms for over 20 years. He has now combined his highly practical approach to Business Development with his unique academic research to focus on developing rainmakers.

He holds an MBA (dissertation in Strategic Marketing) and completed his doctorate with a thesis that studied "The behavioural characteristics of consistently successful 'dealmakers'.

Cliff is a prolific writer, co-author of "Creating New Clients" and "Managing Key Clients".  His latest book “The Rainmakers Dance” will be published this year.

Cliff is also Chairman of Glad's House -  a young charity that aims to help African street children return to a 'normal' way of life.

Nicola Webb - BD Consultant

Nicola has 19 years' experience promoting professional services.  She is a sucker for punishment.  Satisfied clients include Osborne Clarke, Manches LLP, Ernst & Young and King Sturge.  She has helped firms with their marketing strategy, developing client relationship programmes and preparing winning tenders, often Europe-wide. Nicola has recently accepted a permanent role with Manches LLP but remains a valued advisor to The BD Consultancy.

Helen Hammond - Trainer

Helen has specialised in services marketing and business development for over 8 years. Helen's experience more latterly was as Head of Marketing and Business Development at specialist media law firm, Wiggin LLP. Having been brought up working on exhibition stands with her father and then fundraising for a number of charities as a teenager, Helen has been involved with marketing for longer than not! Helen sits on the regional board of the Government Marketing Academy scheme, regularly speaks at conferences, and is published, on the subjects of CRM strategy, business development and client care.
